In June 2019, eleven years after first being performed in its entirety at Müpa Budapest, the Ring tetralogy is returning in a revival that preserves Hartmut Schörghofer's acclaimed directorial concept, but which has been updated in several respects, with new choreographies, stage action and projected films for the audience to enjoy. This will be the second occasion for the audience to see this new and yet still familiar Ring.

In Siegfried, after the mythical gravity and tragedy of Die Walküre, the fairy-tale elements are once again temporarily more pronounced, with the hero without fear, the archetypal figure of German mythology, making an appearance along with a wicked dwarf and a fabulous sword in a plot that involves a forest, a fight with a dragon and riddles. But another layer of genre and meaning can also be detected in the story. Wotan - the Wanderer - has grown old and bitter. His encounter with Siegfried, though, is an eternally valid depiction of conflict between generations that transcends both era and genre. The young man tires of the 'old questioner' (Alter Frager) standing in his way - because he doesn't know whom he is speaking with... But later, at the end of the work, there is a joyful encounter between two people when the young hero climbs the rock, penetrates the wall of fire and awakens the slumbering Brünnhilde.
Reprising the title role he performed the previous year, Stefan Vinke is a heldentenor with a long string of triumphs who excels in all of the Wagnerian tenor roles, from Walter von Stolzing to Tristan. Returning to sing Brünnhilde after Allison Oakes's turn in 2019 is the marvellous Iréne Theorin. The conducting of the artistic director of the Budapest Wagner Days, Ádám Fischer, is rich in detail and energetic, and as in previous years is certain to once again help bring all the nuances of the rich score to the surface.

A music drama in three acts (Updated version of the renowned production, in German, with surtitles projected in Hungarian and German).
