Sean Shibe was born in Edinburgh in 1992 to an English mother and a Japanese father - hence the exotic-sounding surname. After studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, he completed his education in Italy. Today considered one of the most versatile guitarists of his generation, he is just as interested in the music of the past as he is in the contemporary repertoire. Shibe is a regular performer at the world's most prestigious festivals and, despite his young age, has already won numerous awards. He has released several albums, and The Times described a performance of his as "one of the most compelling and touching recitals for the instrument.” His programme for the evening is a fine illustration of his versatility. It includes music by Francis Poulenc, along with a few movements from one of the suites of Federico Mompou, a 20th-century Catalan composer little known in Hungary, as well as a foray into early music with a selection of Scottish lute manuscripts. In addition, he will perform Manuel de Falla's tribute to the spirit of Debussy, and of course there will be a contemporary premiere, an obligatory component of all Rising Stars concerts, this one written by one of the most exciting composers of our time, the British composer Thomas Adès, whom Budapest audiences have already had the chance to see.
