At this concert, Riccardo Frizza will conduct the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra through a programme of compositions by like-minded composers of the Romantic era. Serving as the soloist for Schumann's popular piano concerto is the sparklingly talented Korean pianist Yunchan Lim. The artist, who turns 19 this year, clinched the gold medal at the Van Cliburn Competition last year, making him the youngest winner in the event's history, and his calendar is already filled years in advance with invitations from the world's most renowned orchestras.

In honour of World Music Day, Riccardo Frizza has chosen one composition each by Brahms, Tchaikovsky and Schumann. Brahms wrote his overture to thank the University of Breslau for bestowing an honorary doctorate on him. The German composer, who hated the big fuss that surrounded him, first thanked them for the recognition in a letter, but, after being convinced that he owed the institution a more serious token of his appreciation, he expressed his gratitude for the distinction with an orchestral overture evoking student songs. Yunchan Lim, the brilliant Korean pianist playing the solo part in Schumann's popular concerto, is currently studying at the Korea National University of Arts, although he is already booked up years in advance with invitations from such orchestras as the New York and Los Angeles philharmonics, the Chicago and Boston symphony orchestras, the Orchestre de Paris, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
