While this concert is aimed at both fans of modern music and those of Hungarian works, the programme also includes many classical connections. The first half of the program features two compositions by Péter Eötvös, and the pieces by Bartók that follow in the second attest to the versatility of their composer.

The first of the two unique works by the internationally renowned Eötvös to be performed back to back at the concert is an attempt to find a modern sound for the singing of the sirens, the legendary figures from Greek mythology, or in other words to let us hear everything that Odysseus might have heard. We got to witness the unconventional world première of Sirens' Song via online streaming on 25 March 2021 as part of a programme titled World-famous Hungarians. This evening is our chance to finally hear this remarkable work live in the concert hall. The Cello Concerto Grosso is a work that, while based on great traditions, stands out for its novelty: the eight cellists in the orchestra also form a kind of group of solo instruments and engage in an intense relationship with the soloist, thus bringing the typical hierarchical structure employed in concertos into a new light. The works by Bartók on the programme present their composer from several different angles. Four Orchestral Pieces is the sound of Bartók venturing into the world of impressionism, and the Cantata profana presents us with the folklorist and composer as, with increasing passion, he searches for the roots that will open up new horizons and comes upon the famous words "From the clearest springs only."
