We Hungarians are always pleased to see the name of one of our countrymen on the programme for a concert in the Rising Stars programme organised by the European Concert Hall Organisation. We will get to repeat this happy circumstance again on this evening, as partnering with the Ukrainian violinist Diana Tishchenko in a programme of 20th- and 21st-century music in the Festival Theatre will be the phenomenal world-class Hungarian pianist Zoltán Fejérvári. The two of them have already released a successful record together, and it will be exciting to hear them play chamber music together live.

Born in Simferopol in 1990, Tishchenko is one of the finest young violinists discovered over recent years. As The Strad put it, 'She has the power to mesmerize the audience with her large gesture and strong personality.' Many of her teachers and mentors have been Hungarians, including Ferenc Rados, Rita Wagner, András Schiff, Gábor Takács-Nagy and András Keller. She pursued her advanced studies in Berlin, and one of the greatest successes of her car so far was winning the grand prize at the Long-Thibaud-Crespin Competition in Paris The album she recorded jointly with Fejérvári - titled Strangers in PARadISe - is a selection of works from composers (specifically, Ravel, Ysaÿe, Enescu and Prokofiev who were influenced by life in fin-de-siècle Paris). Fejérvári studied at Budapest's Franz Liszt Academy of Music under András Kemenes, Dénes Várjon, Rita Wagner and Márta Gulyás before moving on to Madrid for further training with Dmitri Bashkirov at the Escuela de Música Reina Sofía. He took awards at several international competitions, notably including first place at the 2017 Montréal International Piano Competition. The music critic at the Washington Post wrote that his „trills hovered like hummingbirds.”
