Celebrating the 210th anniversary of its foundation on 9 December 2021, the Pannon Philharmonic invites the Müpa Budapest audience to a joint commemoration. To honour their founder, Georg Lickl, the opening number at this December jubilee concert will be a movement from his piano sonata for four hands as rescored for orchestra. This will be followed by Brahms's Piano Concerto No. 1 and Pictures at an Exhibition, the latter work being the piece that the orchestra played at the celebratory concert opening the Kodály Centre.

The composer of the first work on the programme of this celebratory concert, the Piano Sonata for Four Hands in C major, therefore, is Georg Lickl, the founder of the Pannon Philharmonic's legal predecessor, a recently rediscovered piece rescored for orchestra specifically for this occasion by the orchestra's permanent conductor, András Vass. Next up will be Brahms's Piano Concerto No. 1 in D minor, a venerable classic that presents a formidable challenge to the soloist both technically and mentally. To close the concert, Ravel's popular arrangement of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition simultaneously conveys the experience of the visual arts, the world of Russian legends and Romantic programme music. The Budapest audience will get to welcome pianist Nelson Goerner to the stage as the soloist performing the Brahms. Born in Argentina but now based in Switzerland, Goerner is one of the most popular pianists of our time. Taking the podium for this jubilee night with the Pannon Philharmonic will be chief conductor Gilbert Varga. Come celebrate with us!
