Born in 1982 near Hamburg, Frahm studied classical piano as a child, but developed a passion for manipulating sound with cassette recorders and mixing boards by the early nineties. He still performs occasionally with his childhood friends as the experimental ambient trio nonkeen. It was with them that he last appeared in Budapest in 2016. Before that, Frahm had performed in Budapest several times both as a solo artists and with one of his favourite collaborators, Icelandic multi-instrumentalist and producer, Ólafur Arnalds.
Nils Frahm's intimate yet boldly passionate compositions are ideal for movie soundtracks. In 2015, the year he founded the international celebration Piano Day, he composed the soundtracks to two feature films, Victoria and Manifesto, and co-wrote and performed the music for the short film Ellis. Over the past two years, Frahm built his own studio in Berlin, where he recorded the album All Melody with which he resumed touring in 2018.
