With her new book, Közelség (Closeness), the Hungarian singer Klári Katona has opened a new chapter in her life. Her literary world unfolds before us through her writing, which is unique in both its thoughtfulness and its ideas. On this evening, Klári's performance of her own texts will help them belong to us, too. With their improvisational instrumental stylings, Kornél Fekete-Kovács, László Gőz and György Kurtág Jr will help bring out the musical rhythms inherent in Katona's lines.

Klári Katona's songs have brought her legendary status, and people of all ages feel a close affinity with her personality. She is one of the few who - as a sensitive, reflective person - seek out new paths across the decades. When, after all the festival awards, recognition and prizes, she first sang her own music and lyrics on an album, it was said that a new musical poet was born. Closeness is a worthy new stage in the continuation of her rich career. The pages of her book invite us on a voyage of discovery through a world of everyday occurences, male-female relationships, sentiments, the presence of desire and countless minor miracles.
On this celebratory evening, the art of storytelling will be taken to new dimensions. The thought-provoking words will be enriched by responses and reflections provided by the language of music. The prime instrument, the human voice provided by Klári Katona's performance, will be enhanced by the addition of musical elements and sound effects.
'That which we encounter up close and personal on a daily basis perhaps distances ourselves from each other.
As though we were afraid of losing ourselves in the avoidance of closeness. True closeness is different. It is desired, accepting. A state of trust that offers us the richness of empathy,' she writes. To transmit the liveable nature of the past, present and future manifestation of the wonder of Closeness and the power of the hope that it brings.
