Two plus two equals three performers on one stage. At the centre, the pianist Károly Binder, who has prepared an intimate, intensive musical experience in the form of a two-part concert featuring two of his close creative partners. Mihály Borbély, on wind instruments, and later Gábor Juhász, on guitar, will pursue an uplifting dialogue alongside the protagonist, as Binder presents the many different sides of his artistic personality.

Károly Binder's work has two distinctive yet often co-existing elements, with a Bartók-based approach feeding on the roots of Hungarian folk music alongside a more concise musical world influenced by poetic sensibilities. One of Binder's primary objectives is to extend Béla Bartók's musical universe, using new compositional and improvisational methods to approach the famous Hungarian composer's theoretical musical systems. This driving principle has helped shape Binder's partnership formed alongside the multi-instrumentalist Mihály Borbély. Then, when he is joined by Gábor Juhász, we will have the chance to appreciate the full power of Binder's more romantic sounds. And as he performs in tandem with Binder, we will also have the pleasure of hearing Juhász's intellectual, lyrical guitar-playing truly take flight. In addition to performing their own chamber music pieces, during the evening the musicians will also play some excepts from works written by Károly Binder for the orchestra. Theme and variations and improvisational pieces from his Concerto, Piano Concerto and the recently completed four-movement Lyrical Suite will feature in the concert.
In addition to the two different line-ups, the evening will also be notable for the two playing styles of the different instruments and the perspective they offer. The duo formed with Gábor Juhász will not only present us with two soloists, but also two musicians who can provide each other with a complete rhythm section. Conversely, the instruments played by Mihály Borbély are truly made for solo play, and the second duo will see us enjoy the performance of two virtuoso soloists, with the piano playing a supporting role in certain sections. The concert promises to be a genuine delight for all lovers of challenging improvisational chamber music.
