Although Diarra was born in Côte d'Ivoire, her roots and family cultural traditions link her to Burkina Faso. Having been born into a family of storyteller/singer/musicians, she started attending festive events with her mother when she was a little girl and practically absorbed the love of performing and artistic self-expression with her mother's milk. After originally training as a dancer and travelling the world with a number of groups, by the late '90s she felt the desire to show her abilities as a songwriter and solo performer. She came out with her first, short release in 2000 and her most recent one in 2021, an album that is deeply rooted in Burkina Faso's cultural diversity while also clearly bearing Diarra's hallmark as a songwriter. "As an observer of modern society, I always seek ways to connect with our ancient traditions based on respect for each other," says the singer. Her music is distinguished by rhythms that get listeners out of their seats and by emphatic and overflowing melodies, in which traditional instruments naturally intertwine with the sound of guitars in a celebration of life - the main themes include fortune, forgiveness, patience, and, of course, the dark sides of life.
