Once again this year, Müpa Budapest will welcome the Hungarian national day of celebration and our new concert season with some dynamic jazz music. This glorious parade continues to feature traditional jazz suitable for all ages. In the Glass Room, Mátyás Gayer, an outstanding talent of the younger jazz generation, will play alongside his trio. The attraction of this pianist lies less in his technique - superb though it is - than in his originality, as he is able to magically make the best known jazz classics his own. Csaba Czirják, the forty-something, highly trained and wonderfully versatile guitarist, will then perform in his own trio alongside double bassist Ádám Bögöthy and László Csízi, who is substituting for the trio's permanent drummer. The group will perform their own songs alongside some elaborate reworkings of jazz standards. The soloists for the two trios come from the cream of Hungary's musical youth.
Three groups will also appear on the open-air stage over the course of the day. First to perform will be this year's winners of the Jazz Showcase, the Wind Singers, an a cappella group who sing popular jazz songs with breathtaking technique and superb energy. The Wind Singers will be followed by the clarinet virtuoso Joe Fritz and his quintet, who will pay tribute to the legendary Benny Goodman. In the customary festive finale, the day will end with a performance from the Police Big Band, whose artistic director is one of the uncrowned kings of Hungarian conventional jazz, Béla Szalóky.
