Inspired by the number of keys on the piano, Piano Day, initiated by popular German musician Nils Frahm, takes place for the sixth time on the 88th day of each year - or close to it. The full-day event at Müpa Budapest in 2020 will open with a programme by a Swedish couple, which is free but requires prior registration. Jakob Lindhagen & Vargkvint are popular performers in their homeland on their own, together they always find creative ways to pair the piano with unusual instruments, such as the 'singing saw'.

The is the first time we will see and hear the Swedish duo in Hungary. The way in which they push boundaries in their performances together are interesting in themselves, but their solo work is also worthy of attention. Sofia 'Vargkvint' Nystrand released her debut album in April 2019: Entitled Hav, it was largely inspired by nature - primarily the oceans and forests. Musically, the foundation provided by the piano is enriched by experimental and pop music elements alongside Swedish folk. Jakob Lindhagen is also not just an exponent of the contemporary completative style, his music is also given a unique character by his regular composition of film scores to produce powerful visual associations. His creations have won awards at home and he has also written music for films featured at the Cannes Film Festival, while his 2017 solo studio record Paces was coloured by strings and broken ambient effects. At their joint concert, they will blur the boundaries between their solo and collaborative work, with the frequently used 'singing saw' and other surprising instruments elevating them to one of the most up-and-coming formations in the modern classical pop music genre.
