The National Self-Government of Bulgarians in Hungary will once again celebrate Hungarian-Bulgarian friendship in 2018. This is an important event for the Bulgarian community in Hungary and plays a significant role in strengthening the countries' historical and present-day ties. This year, Hungary will be hosting the main events, one of which is a large-scale concert at Müpa Budapest. Regularly captivating audiences internationally with their impressive talent, the evening's star guests are the Bulgarian National Radio Folk Orchestra.
The Bulgarian National Radio Folk Orchestra was originally formed in 1952 to make recordings for the radio's musical library. Throughout the years, the orchestra successfully balanced keeping the rich traditions of Bulgarian folk music alive with expanding musical boundaries and horizons through modern interpretations. The folk orchestra has made more than 15,000 recordings in its painstaking efforts to preserve the authentic sound of Bulgarian folk music. For their significant role in enriching Bulgarian culture, they were honoured with the Zlaten vek (Golden Age) award by the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture in 2012, as well as the Krisztalna lira (Crystal Lyre). In 2016, they were granted the Sirak Skitnik award by the National Bulgarian Radio.
