Charlotte Gainsbourg, the daughter of French singer/actor/composer/film director Serge Gainsbourg and British actress Jane Birkin, is not only the star of such films as Merci la vie, 21 Grams, La Science des rêves, Antichrist, Melancholia and Nymphomaniac, she is also a successful singer, who will be performing her first Hungarian concert at Müpa Budapest, She was only a teenager in 1986 when she released her album of songs written by her father, Charlotte for Ever, but two decades would pass before she resumed recording new albums. In the meantime, she only agreed to sing the occasional number for a film soundtrack, as well as contributing to Madonna's 2000 hit What It Feels Like for a Girl. In 2006, however, she released her second album, 5:55, set to the synthesiser tracks of the French group Air and with lyrics from Pulp front-man Jarvis Cocker. This was followed in 2009 by IRM, featuring songs she co-wrote with the American musician Beck (with unused studio recordings from those sessions also making up a large portion of 2011's Stage Whisper). Her 2017 comeback album, Rest, is her most personal work so far. On this electronically-based album created with the musical assistance of Daft Punk's Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Paris-based DJ/producer, SebastiAn, Gainsbourg is co-credited as songwriter for every track except for Songbird in a Cage, which was given to her by Paul McCartney. In fact, following the advice of Lars von Trier, she also directed the videos for the album herself.
Elected the female singer of the year at last year's Les Victoires de la musique gala (known as the 'French Grammys'), Gainsbourg is coming to Budapest to perform both the most important songs from her past albums and those from her new EP, Take 2, which came out at the end of 2018.
