Each year, the experienced judges of the Jazz Showcase set the standard for emerging bands: they should strive to find their own voice. In 2021, several foreign festival organisers mentioned Berlin-based Swiss singer Lucia Cadotsch as an example of how to bring a unique voice and innovative approach to jazz standards that have been played many times before, giving them new value. In 2022, Cadotsch finally arrives with her newly formed quartet and show why she is so widely celebrated.

It is not only European festival organisers, but also professional organisations all over the world who have recognised Lucia Cadotsch's art. In 2017, the renowned DownBeat magazine chose her recording Speak Low as one of the best albums of the year after receiving maximum points in the magazine, while the UK's Guardian gave the album the same rating. She won the Echo Jazz Award, the German equivalent of the Grammy, as Vocalist of the Year and was also invited to the 2018 Winter Jazzfest in New York. Cadotsch is an artist who respects tradition, but at the same time looks for sounds and solutions never heard before, and does so until she finds a solution that suits her groups. She has worked with several formations who share her ambitions - most recently with ECM Records artist Kit Downes, a pianist-organist who is a BBC Jazz Award and Mercury Music Award winner and one of the best of his generation, according to Jazzwise magazine; bassist Phil Donkin, who has played with John Abercrombie, Joey Baron, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mark Turner and Bill Stewart, as well as his own bands; and James Maddren, one of the UK's most sought-after drummers, who makes a close-knit duo with Donkin.
