The Israeli-born Avishai Cohen is credited with one of the most acclaimed jazz albums of the 21st century, Gently Disturbed, released in 2008. What is more, the double bassist has already enchanted audiences at Müpa Budapest three times. In the current line-up of the trio he leads, the Azerbaijani pianist Elchin Shirinov is known not only for his latest Cohen studio album Arvoles (2019), but also for his collaborations with Hungarian musicians. The trio, completed by the talented young drummer Roni Kaspi, is not to be missed once again.

Avishai Cohen is widely acknowledged as one of the contemporary geniuses of the double bass, and has performed with Chick Corea, Bobby McFerrin and Herbie Hancock. His own style and records are characterised by jazz music that he has successfully brought to the mainstream, enriched with Middle Eastern (Arabic, Jewish) and Andalusian elements and highly complex rhythms. His constantly changing trio released its cult album Gently Disturbed in 2008, and his current pianist, Shirinov, born in 1982, is also known for a Hungarian release: in 2017, he played with András Dés, Márton Fenyvesi and Mátyás Szandai on the excellent album Maiden Tower. The current drummer is also an Israeli talent and a child of the 21st century. Roni Kaspi is currently studying at Berklee on a scholarship, and first played with Cohen in the online space, which led to their first joint concerts in autumn 2020. The interaction between the three musicians can produce great emotion. In addition to the tracks from the Arvoles album, this will be demonstrated by older pieces from the extensive Avishai Cohen back catalogue. We will also hear compositions from Cohen's latest album, Two Roses from 2021, which was recorded jointly with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra.
