Global interest in the cimbalom and tárogató grew in the late 19th century. Since then, both instruments have found their place in the genres of gypsy music, folk music, classical music and now world music and jazz. This process has accelerated even further in the first decades of the 21st century, so it is certainly high time we reflected on the development of these instruments. In a conversation related to the 2021 concert show, the soloists of the evening will begin the discussion with the rise of the cimbalom and tárogató in recent years and their growing popularity in world music and jazz. They will talk about the finest overseas players of these characteristically Hungarian musical instruments, discuss the composers who write pieces for the instruments, and also tell us what they think should be done to further expand the popularity of the cimbalom and tárogató outside of Hungary.
