All About Jazz - International Jazz Studies Workshop

The international workshop of the Jazz Showcase Talent Exchange is jointly organised by Müpa Budapest and the Jazz Studies Research Group. The workshop is practice-oriented. These free, open presentations and round table discussions are designed for young jazz musicians, experts of the genre and interested jazz lovers.

Workshop (in English, with a Hungarian interpreter)
The 25-minute talks will begin after an official introduction.

09.40 am: Dr Pedro Cravinho (Lisbon/Birmingham): Dialogues - The crossroads between fado and jazz in Portugal
Dr Cravinho, who is a member of the Jazz Showcase international jury, will present forms of improvisation on the basis of work on his forthcoming
dissertation.

10.10 am: Péter Ajtai, double bassist, one of the most active musicians on the Hungarian jazz scene: Improvisational process models

11.00 am: Ági Kazai, jazz singer, university professor: The relevance of the techniques of Bob Stoloff to Hungarian vocal jazz education

11.30 am: Judit Csobod: Collectivism and other alternative career strategies for creatives
The speaker will analyse strategies for creative musicians beginning their careers, with a particular focus on collectivism.

12.00 pm: Soma Somoskői (Gent): The Forms of Creative Collaboration in the Jazzband

01.30 pm: Round table discussion (in Hungarian with an English interpreter): Bartók as a 'pure source' of contemporary Hungarian jazz
