Why indeed do so many people attend these regular concerts - now in their fifteenth year - that feature Endre Hegedűs playing two or even three piano concertos? The concert programme is the result of a lengthy selection process, and when these works chosen from the endless ranks of masterpieces in order to be shared with enthusiasm and passion can all be connected to a beautiful overall theme, they are sure to find their way to the listeners' hearts. The common denominator this time around is "LOVE”! Does the human soul ever rejoice or flourish more than when it soars by opening up toward its longed-for mate? Resounding throughout the Piano Concerto in F minor are the 17-year-old Chopin's melodies evoking celestial happiness together with confessions of love that are passionate, yet hesitant in their fearful longing. Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto in C minor is full of affectionate gratitude for Dr. Nikolai Dahl, the physician who cured him of a profound psychological crisis, as a progression of captivating melodies that soothe the soul irresistibly carry away listeners and performers alike. These are the moments of love and affection that betoken the transcendental and synthesising experience of devotion and acceptance. Listening to the dreaming and gently swaying "night music” and letting oneself be entranced by the firework-like radiance of the Grand polonaise brillante, one begins to understand the youthfully ardent pianist's attitude behind his concerts: "Look, everyone! Look at how I can play the piano! Let's all join together to enjoy this 'eternally young' romantic evening!”
