Marcell Komor (1868-1944) and his colleague, Dezső Jakab, were students and committed followers of Ödön Lechner, who is considered the father of Hungarian Art Nouveau architecture. The two designed countless, now iconic, buildings for the Hungarian cities of the turn of the century (Budapest, Szabadka, Nagyvárad, Marosvásárhely, etc.).
Their works are characterized by a high degree of functionality, the use of the period's most advanced structures, and a richness of details designed in an Art Nouveau style with a Hungarian taste. They were responsible for the Palace of Culture in Marosvásárhely (Târgu Mureș), which, thanks to their cooperation with the period's leading visual and applied artists, became the most important total-art work of the period.
Like Müpa Budapest, the Palace of Culture was intended to be a joint "hall” for the different branches of art, so it is little wonder Marcell Komor became the eponym of the avenue of culture in Budapest.

The Müpa Budapest underground garage gates will be operated by an automatic number plate recognition system.
