Storaro was 11 years old when he first started to study photography, and began his cinematography career in 1962. He first worked together with Bernardo Bertolucci on two different films in 1970 (The Spider's Strategem and The Conformist). The friendship has lasted. Storaro had already photographed a dozen Italian films before Bertolucci's Last Tango in Paris brought his work a wider audience. And not solely due to the stormy and controversial reception the film received. It wasn't allowed to be shown in Spain and banned as pornography in Italy, but this was a good way for its creators to attract attention. The film is still capable of stirring up emotions today, so… It's about time we sat down and talked about what it is really all about.
