A rhetorical question: do today's young adults spend more time reading poems or in front of a monitor screen? Though it might appear that these two worlds are mutually exclusive, that's what makes any attempt to reconcile them so exciting. The hero of our times is a gamer who slaves away at his monitor screen day and night. Until with the help of János Pilinszky's poetic stories he embarks on a journey into another world, and the people in the story become characters from the game. A multi-character, universal arts monodrama created up by Miklós Turek.

"The truest texts can only be placed on a perfectly blank sheet. Often it is a word, often an image, that the poet cannot not believe in, cannot not trust." This is how the great Hungarian poet János Pilinszky, who was born 100 years ago and died 40 years ago and was one of the most significant figures in post-war Hungarian literature, described the genesis of poetry. One unique slice of his artistic career came in the form of his thought-provoking, often dark poetic stories written for children. Four of these - placed in a brand new context - feature in the World of Pilinszky performance: The Bird and the Girl (A madár és a leány), The Song About a King With a Heart of Stone (Ének a kőszívű királyról), The Fable (Fabula) and History of the Golden Bird (Aranymadár históriája). This joint show from Versszínház (Poetry Theatre) and Zichy Szín-Műhely offers a selection of being stories for slightly or very 'grown up' kids. Together, Gábor Karcis's animation, Miklós Szitha's music and the performances of Magdolna Rúzsa, Gábor Gundel Takács, Péter Galambos and Csenge Nagy Kasza - alongside the protagonist Miklós Turek - will help create an extraordinarily rhythmic set. The actor Miklós Turek introduces one of the greatest figures of the last 150 years of Hungarian poetry to a new generation: this special production promises to be a literary, musical and visual extravaganza.
