People often say that Hungarian literature is built around a culture of journals and magazines, and there is much truth in this assertion. Despite the disappearance of several prestigious literary publications in recent years due to a lack of funding, journals and magazines in Hungary remain hugely influential compared to in other European countries due to both the sheer number of publications and their undoubted quality.

The same can be said for the publications of contemporary literature books: a wide array of different publishers eagerly await the high-level manuscripts of authors. It is not typical, therefore, that a valuable piece work should remain in the drawer of the writing desk for a long time or even permanently. At the same time, it is often difficult to for the reader to find their way among the weekly and monthly periodicals, book publishers and jungle of online portals that reflect the demands of our era. Csaba Károlyi's interactive presentation strives to help students orientate themselves more adeptly in this environment. The deputy-chief editor of the Élet és Irodalom (Life and Literature) magazine, a professor at ELTE university and one of the most active and most trustworthy critics in Hungary, Mr Károlyi is without question a most suitable candidate to present the characteristics and editing principles of the best and most exciting publishing forums in the country, as well as to endeavour to incite enthusiasm in middle school pupils for reading contemporary Hungarian literature.
