The 'busójárás' (or 'Busó March') is a folk custom of the Šokci ethnic group of Mohács. Tradition has it that they drove away the Turkish occupiers while wearing masks and dressing as terrifying monsters and animals, and making a great din. This later became a traditional part of the carnival festivities: banishing the cold winter and vanquishing darkness with the fires of joy. Busó costumes are generally sheepskins with the fleece turned outwards, sandals or boots, khaki trousers and a wooden mask. In former times, they stuffed the khaki trousers with straw to make themselves look stronger. The coat was fastened at the waist with a rope or chain, onto which one or more bells where tied. Their accessories include rattles, clubs, pitchforks, wooden horns and wooden water-carrying yokes.

The performance will be followed by a free activity session at Banner Square called Reverberation for all holders of tickets for the performance.
