Since 1983, International Dance Day has been held on 29 April to commemorate the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre, the man considered to be the father of classical ballet. The biggest celebration on the dance calendar has been marked for many years now by a gala evening organised by the Association of Hungarian Dance Artists, in collaboration with the National Dance Theatre, to present its professional awards, along with the prizes of the Zoltán Imre Foundation and Zoltán Nagy Jnr. Foundation, and the Viktor Fülöp Dance Scholarships. The gala event will also showcase a representative selection of work from the 2017 award-winning performers and creators. Planned participants from among 2017 award winners include the Duna Art Ensemble, Compagnie Pál Frenák, GG Dance Eger, Győr Ballet, Hungarian National Ballet, Hungarian National Dance Ensemble, and Hungarian Dance Academy.
