One of the most popular pieces in the opera literature, La bohème has played at the Met more than 1200 times over the course of more than a century, this time in Franco Zeffirelli's classic production, with an exciting cast of performers. In the words of one critic, "Sonya Yoncheva portrayed the character of the tubercular girl struggling to say farewell to the beauties of life with meticulous craftsmanship, as if this were not her first time singing the role, not to mention a few weeks after the birth of her son.” In the role of her poet lover is one of America's most sought-after tenors; Michael Fabiano made ends meet as a baseball umpire before his career took off. Susanna Phillips made her Met début as Musetta and has returned to perform many other principal female roles in addition to Puccini's coquettish singer. Lucas Meachem combines his lush and powerful baritone with richly nuanced acting to win the respect of even the most vitriolic critics. Matthew Rose made his Met début as La bohème's philosopher in 2011, and critics say that in the role of the music teacher Schaunard, Aleksey Lavrov unleashed sparkling dramatic energies with his sublime baritone. Marco Armiliato is one of the foremost opera conductors of our time and has demonstrated his extraordinary talent in seven different productions at the Metropolitan Opera.

The 'Metropolitan Opera Live in HD” transmissions have been made possible through the cooperation of our partner, Cikánek Management.
