Based in New York, Jan Vogler is one of the foremost cellists of our time. The German musician was 20 years old when he was named section leader at the Staatskapelle Dresden, and he has now been touring the world as a soloist for more than two decades. He has played all of the greatest pieces in the music literature on his fabulous sounding (and priceless) Stradivarius. As the Hungarian National Philharmonic's soloist, he will perform a French Romantic work that holds a special place in his repertoire.
It was under the spiritual leadership of Camille Saint-Saëns himself that the rediscovery of the classics of French music, including the works of Rameau, began in the second half of the 19th century, only for them to later be forgotten again. It was only in the late 20th century that listeners could again marvel at the originality and variety of Rameau's music. This orchestral suite from the opera Les Indes galantes is a veritable treasure trove of these styles.
In the second part of the evening, Zsolt Hamar will conduct one of the most popular works of 19th-century Austrian symphonic music. Renowned for his modesty, and as a deeply religious and fervent admirer of Wagner, Anton Bruckner filled his grandiose and captivating masterpiece, the Symphony No. 4, with melodies that warm the soul with their penetrating power. It poses a true challenge to the orchestra and constitutes an incomparable acoustic experience for the audience.
