We would like, even during this extraordinary situation, for the Müpa Budapest audience to still be able to encounter the world's most outstanding and thrilling artists each evening - this time in their own homes. It is precisely for this reason that we have decided to unlock our media library for everyone over the weeks to come and - each night at the familiar times - open Müpa Budapest's virtual concert hall and auditoriums by providing access to a single unforgettable performance from past years.

The performance will be broadcasted on our website, Facebook-page and YouTube channel.

Dezső Ránki, who has been spoiling the Hungarian public for four decades with his world-class playing and been chosen by the Müpa Budapest as their Artist of the Season more than five years ago, plays works by a composer particularly close to his heart: Joseph Haydn.
Ránki does not like to be celebrated, avoiding the limelight and rarely giving interviews; he has no website and yet people know about him, while he gives most of his concerts abroad. "I'm a home-loving person; we have a big garden, loads of books and records, I can't get bored. And I don't even get bored when I'm doing nothing, we just stay together at home and maybe I listen to the birds.” Ránki loves to make music, but only comes out with a new programme once he has worked it out perfectly according to his own artistic principles. He is not one of those craftsmen who manufacture dazzling products on a conveyor belt, and spend the greater part of the year in hotels. His genre is that of the artisan who spares no time or effort in completing his work. He may spend a longer time working on something, but what emerges from his hands is of imperishable value and fit to last a lifetime. For this concert, he will be accompanied by Concerto Budapest, an orchestra he has performed with on numerous occasions, conducted by his long-term musical collaborator András Keller.

This recording was made at a concert held at Müpa Budapest on 8 February 2015.
