The Met's new production

Anna Netrebko, one of the world's greatest and most popular sopranos, will perform at the Met for the first time in the title role of Adriana Lecouvreur. The performance, thanks also to a wonderful cast, promises to be a true celebration. The main male character, Count Maurizio, is brought to life by the indefatigable tenor Piotr Beczała in this colourful opera which overflows with graceful, beautiful melodies as it tells the story of an 18th century actress. The title character's rival is played by the dazzling mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili, and her faithful friend by one of Italy's greatest baritones, Ambrogio Maestri. The Italian Gianandrea Noseda, is a popular conductor at the Met and for numerous world-famous orchestras.
Since the 1907 Met premiere of the opera by Puccini's contemporary Francesco Cilea, with the main roles played by Lina Cavalieri and Enrico Caruso, the opera house has hosted the piece only twice. This is why this new globally acclaimed staging by Sir David McVicar is so special. The production will appear in six great opera houses: the Metropolitan, London's Royal Opera House, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the Staatsoper in Vienna, the San Francisco Opera and the Opéra de Paris.
