Music lovers know there is nothing more exciting than a first encounter with a great performer. Those opera fans who have only read about the international successes of the world-famous Russian soprano but never heard her sing are in for an unforgettable experience of the artist's magical touch at Müpa Budapest.

A singing voice is a delicate asset to be protected. The opportunities it offers cannot be abused. The majority of opera singers are only proficient within a single repertoire. The natural characteristics of some voices predestine singers to excel in the Baroque and Viennese classical repertoires, while others spend their lives mastering the difficult passages of Wagner and Richard Strauss. Others still perform the coloratura of bel canto operas with incredible skill. Former member of the Mariinsky Theatre's children's choir, one-time student of the Hamburg Opera Studio, and prize winner of the Plácido Domingo-sponsored 2007 Operalia competition, Olga Peretyatko is a remarkable artist: her repertoire has almost no limits. She sings Handel and Mozart, Wagner and Richard Strauss, while the rarer Rossini pieces have also played an especially important role in her career. This is not to mention her Russian repertoire, her linguistic and musical mother tongue, which includes Stravinsky. The audience will get a taste of this versatility, one of the artist's great charms, at this aria evening where, besides the works of the three great bel canto composers Rossini, Bellini and Donizetti, the music of Offenbach, Gounod and Glinka will also be served up.
Michelangelo Mazza, the committed and experienced opera conductor, will take over direction of the Hungary State Opera Orchestra for the evening.
