The music critic at Opera News must feel an affinity with the world of sports cars, having compared the world-famous Peruvian tenor's voice to the engine of a Porsche 911: "When people hear it, they immediately know that they're listening to something that is painstakingly calibrated and a symbol of luxury.”

Those familiar with Juan Diego Flórez's career thus far know that the singer's voice has not only put him in the fortunate class of bel cantos tenors, it has made him one of their elite. He has everything it takes to be initiated onto the A-list of vocalists: A bright voice, grace, ringing upper registers, suppleness and technical competence in executing difficult and complex coloraturas with flash - all at the level of perfection. And that's not all: the 44-year-old artist - who started his career singing classic hits at his mother's pub in Lima - is a pleasure for the eyes as well as the ears. The opera world applauds chubby tenors too if they have nice voices, but fate has blessed Flórez with striking good looks, too: a slender and elegant model of Latin masculine beauty. What he provides on the stage is what they call an all-round experience.
Early on, his repertoire was dominated by Bellini, Donizetti and, most of all, Rossini. However, upon turning 40, he noticed that his voice had become darker and his performance style more powerful, leading him to choose lyric roles with increasing frequency and, eventually, Mozart too. At this concert, he will be showing the audience all of his facets.
